ENGAGEMENT:

We will begin class in the weight room.

I will then ask them a few questions to get their minds headed in the right direction.

  1. Who in here has used a weight system before?
  2. Can anyone tell me something you’ve done and what part of the body it works?
  3. What are the benefits of using the weight room?
  4. What is the recommended days a week to lift weights?
  5. Can anyone tell me the safety that comes with using the weight room?

Before we move on I want to show you this video about the benefits of using weights to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Video:  https://youtu.be/YvrKIQ_Tbsk

Assessment:

Write down a view of lifting weight you had before the video and how your view has now changed.

  1. Someone tell me their answer. (ask 4 people)

We will discuss their answers to lead into the next part of the lesson.

EXPLORATION:

There will be three stations already set up in the weight room.

(dumbbells / medicine balls / weight rack )

Before we begin let us go over a few safety rules.

  1. Always pay attention to your surroundings.
  2. Never throw weights, set them down and watch where you place them.
  3. Do not horseplay, this is a serious play to be focused at all times.
  4. Never grab a weight that is a weight you cannot control.

Now we are going to explore the weight room in our on ways.

I would like for you to make a visit to each station and explore the different ways the equipment can be used.

While you are exploring talk with others around you and talk about the different ways you would use them and how they would benefit your health.

I will give you ten minutes to explore and talk.

Assessment:

On the same piece of paper in your notebook. Write down an idea that you were able to come up with by talking with someone else.
